Con la inspiración de hacer el arte accesible a todos, el artista mexicano Alejandra Aceves tiene uno de sus cuadros originales firmados impreso en esta taza de cerámica. La pintura nostálgica y colorida representa dos muñecas María tradicionales mexicanas.

La encantadora muñeca se originó en la Ciudad de México cuando muchos otomíes y mazahuas emigraron a la capital en la década de 1970. Debido a su vestimenta tradicional única, las mujeres se hicieron conocidas como "Marías". Se estableció un programa educativo para ellos y la hija del artista Diego Rivera, Guadalupe Rivera Marín, alentó la elaboración de estas populares muñecas de trapo como una forma de generar ingresos en la década de 1980. Las mujeres artesanas llevaron la idea a sus pueblos mazahuas y otomíes y las muñecas se hicieron populares en todo México y el extranjero.

“An Original Design in Blue and White”

This mug is a welcome addition to my blue and white ceramics collection. It is well-made, and the amimals on it are delightful. I appreciate that Alejandras design is on both sides of the mug, which suits both the right-handed and the left-handed (like me).

“Nice Animal Postcards to Color”

Our hats are off to this incredible woman who suffers from debilitating fibromyalgia and still managed to run a marathon! Even when odds were against Alejandra with no cure for her fibromyalgia diagnosis, she found the strength to change her life for the better and conquer the impossible - running a marathon.

Preserving Traditions

Alejandra uses and continues to hand down traditional techniques to the youth in her workshop who, now carry on her same methods.

Job Creator

Alejandra has built her jewelry workshop with NOVICA and is now able to give work to some incredibly dedicated women.
