Trabajando en papel maché, Marina Lozano de México crea esta excelente estatuilla de catrina. La escultura esquelética está elegantemente vestida, con cintas y flores en el cabello y una gran rodaja de sandía en las manos. Lozano diseña la figura a partir de la original "La Calavera Catrina", un grabado de zinc creado por el artista José Guadalupe Posada en México alrededor de 1910. Posada creó el personaje, un esqueleto femenino con un elegante sombrero, como un retrato satírico de los nativos mexicanos que aspiraban al estilo europeo y negaron su propia herencia. Desde entonces, la catrina se ha convertido en un emblema de la celebración del Día de Muertos en México y en un tema de arte popular popular.

This alebrije is amazing. I bought it to add to may collection of Marina Lozanos beautiful work. I tell my 7 year old grand daughter that these will be hers someday...and that they are not toys but works of art.

I was on the fence about this one but ultimately decided that the idea of a seahorse with butterfly wings with too amusing to pass up. Now that I have it it is a lot prettier than I realized from the pictures
